Our Party Platform (our top priorities)

THE WHITMAN & CLARK EXPEDITION

Our Party Platform (our top priorities)

We want to restore the power of government back to the people of Ohio.  We will get back to the basics by providing better education, healthcare, social services, police, fire and EMS for the state of Ohio.  Now that is a very broad generalization that many politicians might make, but I am prepared to back it up by focusing on these issues if elected.  These “positions of trust” should be reserved for those who possess the highest of moral standards.  They need to be highly recruited, undergo in-depth review throughout the application process, intensively trained, and duly compensated for their efforts as we will continue holding them to the highest of standards.  As we have demonstrated in our cost-cutting campaign, we plan to “trim the fat” from what is being wasted in the state’s budget and save taxpayer money.  This money should sufficiently support the creation of grants to create opportunities for communities, large and small, to participate in restoring our state by increasing salaries and benefits for these dedicated members of our communities.  I am very reluctant to increase taxes, but I would be prepared to ask all Ohioans to make individual contributions to make these grants possible.  These “positions of trust” represent the centerpiece for each and every community.  I believe building a strong foundation will build a strong community, and tying those communities together will make Ohio the greatest state in our Union.

The Governor’s Cabinet

In the state of Ohio, the governor appoints qualified individuals to head the major agencies of the state.  They make up a panel of advisors in what is known as the Governor’s Cabinet, and their main function is to assist the Governor in running the executive branch of our state.  These appointments are subject to legislative confirmation.  The state government has a system of checks and balances that call for the advice in selection and confirmation from the Senate in all state appointments.  While the Ohio Supreme Court positions are elected without any political party affiliation, there is no such regulation regarding who might be selected to head any of these state agencies.  Thus, it is likely that a newly elected governor will select individuals with the same party affiliation.  I am prepared to change that traditional “spoils system” by selecting qualified individuals regardless of their party affiliation.  I would personally review each candidate, searching for “the best-of-the-best” before turning the appointment over to the Senate for confirmation.  It is just one more small step in building the strongest foundation for our state government.
