ABORTION

As a father, I cannot imagine why anyone would destroy a miracle, the miracle of life. My son is such a gift, and he brightens every single day of my life. How someone could throw away such a precious gift is entirely beyond me. I am totally against abortion, and personally, I would never consider this an option. However, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that it was not in the scope of any state’s rights to prohibit abortions during the first trimester of a pregnancy due to a woman’s individual right to privacy. Most of us know the result of Roe v. Wade in 1973. The decision has not been reversed nor is it likely to be reversed in the near future. As governor, I must follow the laws of this nation. We must focus on those issues which are within our authority to control. I believe the state of Ohio should focus its efforts on a more intensive campaign for safe sex, more counseling for those seeking the procedure, and making more people aware of adoption options. This is within our powers as a state government and arguing with the federal government only distracts us from making a difference where it may really count.
