SPECIFIC ABILITIES

I like to consider myself a “jack of all trades.” Whether I’m in the classroom teaching kids, turning wrenches on my Chevy truck, chopping wood, or helping my neighbor put a new roof on his house, I am quite versatile. As a teacher, I must first be a learner, and I learn fast. I won’t lie and say that it always comes easy because I have had to learn the “hard way” so many times. But I’m a problem solver, and Ohio has some rather large problems. All of which are within our ability to fix.

I pride myself on integrity, honesty, and dedication. I am also sensitive and compassionate to the needs of others. Combining these with some extraordinary common sense and fighting instincts, I believe qualifies me as an individual with good leadership skills.

The issues and problems facing Ohio have had years to develop, and few can be corrected overnight. There is no “easy fix” for many of these issues. I wish it were as easy as slapping on some duct tape or using some old bubble gum to patch the leak. That is exactly what our state government has been doing over the past decade. It is time to get to the source of the problem. “If you’re gonna fix it, fix it right,” is the old saying, and it rings true.

The best analogy for Ohio’s current dilemma might parallel that beat-up Chevy truck of mine. Now I bought that truck wrecked with a salvaged title. It had been hit by a delivery truck and had a crunched passenger fender and door as well as some brake problems. I searched area junkyards for a solid used fender and door at a reasonable price. Then I replaced the brake caliper and brake hose. I followed all the regulations on getting it inspected, and now it’s back on the road again. I got myself a “daily driver” for under $1200! Now, just about anyone could have pulled out the dents and driven it with the brakes pulling to one side. But that is the “quick and easy fix,” and it would not be safe nor would it be a lasting solution, only just a temporary postponement in solving the real problem.

The same thing can be said for Ohio’s government. In four (hopefully more) years of service to this state, I believe we can establish a course of action that can be carried out within the next twenty to thirty years. We can get Ohio back on the road again...fixed the right way! Are you prepared to be in this for the long haul? What do you want to leave for our posterity? How much longer can we all endure this “quick fix” mentality? Let’s fix it right this time.
