A month from now, we will be electing our
next governor and lieutenant governor. We would love to see record numbers
of voters turning out to participate in the election process. We would
love it even more if they turned out to cast write-in votes for us! Some
view a vote for us as a "wasted vote," but every single
vote for us adds yet another VOICE to
our cause. A substantial vote tabulation for us will send the message
to all the politicians that there is a growing number of Ohioans who are
tired of the 'status quo' and demand a change. Clearly, we still have
very little chance at winning the actual election, but we claim the moral
victory of following through with our intentions and for representing the REAL
issues of this election. We have learned volumes about the election
process, and the wisdom gained will see us through long after this election
is concluded.
The Democrats appear to
be gaining ground on the monopolizing Republicans, but the election debates
might prove to close the gap even more. While Tim Hagan anxiously awaits
the opportunity for a duel with words, I am convinced Bob Taft (and
especially his spokespersons) is dreading these experiences. The first
debate will be conducted in Dayton on October 15th at 7pm inside the studio
of WPDT-TV Channel 16. We did not receive invitation. Surprisingly
though, the debate organizers also chose not to invite the third ballot
contender, John Eastman. Organizers claimed he had no realistic chance at
winning. I think that should be left up to the voters and NOT debate
organizers. It would seem that all the efforts of the Eastman-Stewart
campaign were essentially nullified by a small group of media organizers.
The situation does provide us with an opportunity to see both of the major political
party candidates as they focus exclusively on each other's record. I
hope that after witnessing such an event that viewers will recognize that
Ohio is better off with someone else as governor than either one of them! Hagan
will likely attack Taft's record over the past four years, and poor Taft has
little defense for his lack of accomplishments. It will be entertaining to
say the least.
We are focusing our
efforts on reaching the media via a multitude of interviews and editorials,
which we are scheduling all over the state for the next few weeks. I
applaud every news media station that has offered us the opportunity to
participate with free airtime on their stations. Each interview
connects us to an even greater number of like-minded Ohioans who are equally
desperate for a positive change in leadership.
